1. What is Heritage Day in South Africa?

Heritage Day is a public holiday, observed on 24 September 2025. Heritage Day is about unity being celebrated through our unique diversity.

2. How is Heritage Day Celebrated in South Africa?

If you are wondering, how is Heritage Day celebrated in South Africa, many South African families come together for family meals, often a braai, to celebrate togetherness. In general, festivals are held, and music concerts and cultural and cuisine-related festivals also take place. The unofficial nickname of Heritage Day has become ‘braai day’ over the years, because this is something most South Africans enjoy, regardless of their background, and Heritage Day falls in Spring – a great time to fire up the coals and start eating outdoors again.
